Parental Involvement

Parental involvement is an absolute necessity for the success of my students. I want all of my students to do well and I believe that it is a community effort to educate a child. I need parental input to help encourage our students to do the very best they can and to help them develop great habits that will allow them to succeed. These habits, such as time management and organization skills are not only necessary in the classroom but in their individual lives. I need parents to help their child develop these skills and to help reinforce what is being taught in the school. I also welcome ideas from parents. Education is not a one person job. When need the experiences and knowledge of parents and other relatives to add to the knowledge being taught through the curriculum.

Technology in the classroom

I will be using blogs in my classroom to let students express their ideas about the class, the assignments or anything they want to discuss. I would like to help students create personal websites to encourage the development of who they are. I would like to incorporate the use of podcasts so that as a class we can share information that might not otherwise be available. The world is our library and I want students to use every opportunity to use the knowledge out there to help them develop their own ideas and to learn from others.

Class Expectations

I believe in respect for the individual in my classes. I want to encourage creativity and a thirst for knowledge and I don't believe that can take place without first teaching respect. Respect for students classmates, but more importantly respect for themselves and pride through their accomplishments. Without self respect a student cannot appreciate the position of their peers. That appreciation can then be extended to the world around them. I believe that mutual respect will open the mind to acceptance of other ideas that might be outside the box. I don't want students to be pigeon-holed into one way of learning. I want them to reach out into the world around them and learn from it.

About my class

I believe in using any method available to teach my students. In my classes, I expect all students to develop organizational skills and time management skills needed to succeed in the classroom. I will be incorporating these techniques in class to help students to develop their own skills. In inclusive classes, I will make modifications for my Special Education students, as needed. All students will be expected to perform at their best ability. I intend to use class blogs to allow students to discuss assignments and ask questions that need to be addressed in class. I have an e-mail address that students and parents can use to reach me. I encourage communication and invite you to use this e-mail address.

About me

I am a Special Education major at the University of South Alabama. I believe that all students need an equal opportunity to education, no matter their ability or disability. I believe that students should show respect for the individual in my classroom and throughout their individual lives. I believe in using whatever means necessary to have my students achieve success in school. In doing this I intend on using technology available such as blogs, creating websites, and pod casts to bring various educational sources together in one place. I hope to foster creativity and curiosity in my students and a drive to want to know.
